Someone is threatening to expose your photos, messages, or personal information unless you pay or comply. You are scared, maybe ashamed, and not sure who to trust. This guide is for that exact moment.
If you are in immediate physical danger, contact your local police first. Everything below assumes the threat is digital.
Do not pay
Paying does not end it. In almost every case we have seen, payment is treated as confirmation that the threat works, and the demands continue or increase. It also destroys your negotiating position and any real chance of a clean resolution.
Do not delete anything
Every message, screenshot, username, and profile is evidence. Before you block anyone, capture everything: full screenshots including timestamps and usernames, the profile URL, and any payment details you were given. You can block afterward, not before.
This is not your fault
Blackmail relies on shame to keep victims silent. Whoever is doing this has done it before, and will keep doing it to others. The shame belongs to them, not you. Reporting it, to a platform, to us, to the police, is not an admission of anything. It is how it stops.
Report it, even if you do not press charges
Most major platforms have a dedicated process for extortion and non-consensual content, and they act faster on reported cases than most people expect. Reporting does not commit you to anything further.
Find out who is behind it
Threats like this are rarely as anonymous as they feel. A username, a payment method, a writing pattern, a reused profile photo, these all leave a trace.
